He was actively involved in the community and passionate about outdoor exercise. He and Joy moved to Marble 18 years ago from San Antonio, TX. retired as an officer from the Air Force in 1971 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He became an aerospace physiologist and completed medical research projects at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, NM that involved pre-manned space flight with chimpanzees, high-altitude manned balloons, and a study on the impact of g-forces on the human body, the latter which landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records for sustaining the highest number of g-forces (82.6g in a water-braked rocket sled in 1958). ![]() Eli joined the United States Air Force in 1951.
